A Forex Tutorial On How The Forex Market Works

By Bart Icles

Learning the basics of the foreign exchange market is part of any forex tutorial. And part of learning the basics is learning more about how the foreign exchange market works. We may all know that a certain type of forex market exists in any place wherein one currency is traded for another. You can say that the foreign exchange or currency market works as an international market for different kinds of currencies. Through forex trading, investors from different parts of the globe are able to exchange currencies.

Practically, the forex market works through the exchange of currencies. This currency exchange makes the forex market unique because investors are able to buy and sell money all in the same time. Currency trades are done in pairs wherein one currency is paired with another. Some of the most common currency pairs include USD/CHF or the US dollar and Swiss franc, EUR/JPY or the euro and Japanese yen, and CAD/USD or the Canadian dollar and US dollar. Presently, the forex market is the largest trading market in the world, where in more than one trillion trades are done each day. Turnover rates in the foreign exchange market are almost thirty times larger than the total volume of equity or stock trades in the United States.

In spite of its large volume and popularity, the public remains to be relatively unfamiliar with the foreign exchange market. The currency market was made open to the public only in 1998, when large inter-bank units were broken down into smaller pieces and offered to the public.

Before 1998, the foreign exchange market was only meant for big players like banks, large currency dealers, and multinational corporations. These days, the currency market is no longer limited to large-sized businesses that have strong financial backgrounds - even individual traders are allowed to participate in foreign currency trades. Nevertheless, large international banks still remain to be the major traders in the foreign exchange market. These large banks are said to be in control of almost 70% of the trades in the forex market.

If you are looking into joining the unpredictable yet rewarding world of currency trading, it would help a lot to spend time in learning the ins and outs of forex trading. You can start with a simple forex tutorial on market basics so you can have an idea of how the market works. The amount of time you spend on learning more about the currency market and the quality of forex education you receive can pretty much determine your future success or failure in the forex world. - 23167

Warren Buffett Strategy - The Most Successful Ever

By Mike Swanson

If you want to look at an extremely successful stock picks strategy, you would be remiss to overlook the Warren Buffett strategy. The philosophy he uses is known as value investment and this comes from the school of Benjamin Graham. When he invested in Berkshire Hathaway in 1965 it cost him $10,000. This investment is worth $30 million today. Had he invested this money in the S & P 500, it would be worth the considerable sum of $500,000, however half a million is nothing compared to thirty million!

The legend that is Warren Buffett has grown to such a degree as to almost appear mythical. His philosophy of value investing has him pursuing bargains, much like a bargain hunter might and this is how he makes his millions. He sees value in certain stocks which other people can't. The products he purchases are under-valued, so they don't attract other investors.

Undervalued stocks don't normally attract investors, but their low worth is what attracts Warren Buffett. He is able to predict what they will be worth by analyzing the fundamentals of the business, and this is what helps him to predict that the market will eventually favor his stocks.

He is not concerned with facts such as supply and demand. This is normally what controls markets, but Warren Buffett is not looking for short term gains, he is looking for long term, return on investment. The quote that best describes the way he thinks is: "In the short term the market is a popularity contest; in the long term it is a weighing machine".

Stocks are selected based on the company's overall potential, so he looks at this as a whole entity, and sees investing as a long term prospect for making money. Warren Buffett looks for ownership and not capital gain, and his concerns are relevant to how well a company is able to make money.

When he looks at an investment opportunity and evaluates the relationship between its stock price against the level of the company's excellence. He also asks himself certain questions, such as performance regarding return on equity, if the company avoids taking on excessive debt (we all know how he feels about debt), how long the company has been public and whether or not it relies on a commodity. - 23167

Trading Systems: Money Management

By Maclin Vestor

How to manage money when buying stocks, futures, or options -- what you must know before you buy.

Many people have a very crucial problem, they take on more risk than they can. It really doesn't matter if you're very young, if you take risk to the extreme and continue down that path, you will by mathematical law in all probability lose money.

Lets say you had an almost sure investment that was 85% likely to succeed. When it succeeded you double your money. You put all your money on it. The problem is, when the investment fails, you lose everything. Now it is just a fact that you will eventually lose everything if you continue to invest everything. You only need one trade and you are wiped out completely. Now, even if you invested 90% of your money on an investment that would win 80% of the time, you still are taking on too much risk to win in the long run. If you lose once, you will need a 1000% return just to get back to even. That simply will not happen forever, and even if it did, the large loss would limit your potential for gain so much, that you'd be better off not taking on the maximum risk.

Now, your risk of losing everything can never be completely 100% eliminated, even with conservative strategies. If you flip enough coins, eventually you'll get a very rare event such as 100 heads in a row. However, you'll also get 100 tails in a row. The idea is that you have a strategy that yields you more when you win, and/or wins more than it loses. in this case there will be several losses in a row, but there will also be several wins in a row. If you manage your money properly, you will still have enough money if you get several losses in a row, to be able to more than make up for it when you get several wins in a row. If you are forced to limit the amount of capital after so many losses, that you cannot invest with the same amount after the losses, you may be unable to win enough to make up for those losses. The idea is to keep your investments small enough to limit the chances of that happening. Although almost nothing is a sure thing, by using proper money management, you tip the odds in your favor.

Even if you have a profitable method, if you do not manage your risk, your profitable method becomes unprofitable. It's not usually the investment vehicle, it's the investor that ultimately determines how quickly you fail, and ultimately whether you are able to succeed. Under the same context, it's not usually the type of car, but the driver that determines whether you cause an accident. In order to protect yourself, you must keep your positions at a manageable level, and make sure to keep yourself limited by these rules that will limit your risk of ruin and keep the odds in your favor so you can stay in the game.

So how exactly does one manage money in a trading system? You need to determine probability of a move taking place. If you buy OTM option, the stock will have to move larger for success to occur. Of course if it does, the reward will be greater. There are probability curves based on a random walk theory that will assist you in determining the probability of a move taking place, until you know any better, use these. However, you also should use your own records of your system Determine both your risk/reward (your average % win divided by your average percentage losses, and in addition figure out your likelihood of success. When you do this, you can use what's known as the Kelly Criterion By using the formula as follows Kelly % = W - [(1 - W) / R] Kelly % = The maximum percentage of your capital you should invest per position. W = Winning probability R = Win/loss ratio

A trading system that contains good money management rules will not only outperform one without, but it will also help protect your capital, and keep you in the game. - 23167

Real Estate Information

By Ivan Elsterdamster

Real estate appraisal or property valuation is the process of determining the value of the property on the basis of the highest and the best use of real property (which basically translates into determining the fair market value of the property).

Real estate agents generally calculate their fee as a percentage of the selling price (in case of sales) and as part of the rent (for rentals). People, who want to sell/let their property, leave the details of their property with the real estate agent (and in fact, even leave the keys of the house so that the real estate agent can arrange for viewings without them getting into any hassle).

A good real estate investor would evaluate the property on the basis of the developments going on in the region. So real estate appraisal as done by a real estate investor would come up with the value that the real estate investor can get out of the property by buying it at a low price and selling it at a much higher price (as in the present).

Since real estate agents are probably most familiar with the market situation in their region of operation, it makes sense to approach them to get an idea of the going rate for properties in that region.

Real estate agents would generally know the prices of various properties of different types and at various locations in the region.

This, in fact, works in the favor of real estate agent in two ways. Firstly, if the real estate agent is able to sell the house they get their commission and secondly, if they make the buyer happy too they earn a good reputation (and hence more business).

The decision to invest in real estate by a real estate investor usually is taken on the appraisal. It can be done by someone else.

Generally, a lot of people start looking for real estate for sale through the internet. And why not, internet is after all the hub of all information. So, you could look for real estate for sale using the search engines on the internet. You could also specify your requirements in search criteria on the real estate sites in order to get very specific results on real estate for sale. You can even view images and video of some of the properties thus reducing the need for personal visits for viewing. So, this is surely a good option for finding real estate for sale.

Of course, how can we forget the real estate brokers? Real estate brokers are one the most popular (and sometimes most effective) information resource for real estate for sale. Not only do they provide information about real estate for sale but also assist in getting the deal finalized and closed. - 23167

Stock Broker Trading Commissions Explained

By Charles Benedict

In the modern world of advanced technologies, stock brokers are becoming increasingly cheap. However, cheap doesn't mean the same. Here are some of the more popular brokerages and what they charge.

Unless you get free trades, there isn't an option that's cheaper than OptionsHouse. At $2.95, it's the cheapest place to get your trades executed. However, the broker is relatively newer so you may want to do more due diligence.

If you don't mind the bad publicity and the fact that they might change the rules again, Zecco isn't a bad choice. Currently, they still offer free stock trades for those that have $25,000 in assets or trade 25 times a month.

While OptionsXpress is pretty expensive with a high commission rate, they don't have any hidden fees. If you trade less than 35 times a quarter, the commission is $14.95. For high volume traders, it's $12.95.

Wells Trade offers 100 free trades a year for those that have a combined $25,000 assets with them. For those that already have a Wells Fargo account, this isn't a bad option. However, just bare with the less than spectacular trading platform.

The highest rated deep discount stock broker is TradeKing. The commission is $4.95 a trade and continues to be one of the cheapest per trade price out there.

Etrade has a special place in my heart because that's who I started with. The broker is solid and the pricing is $9.99 ($12.99 if you have less than $50,000 in assets).

Scottrade thrives on their customer support, and it also has the most branches. The stock commission is $7 a trade and it's middle of the road in terms of prices.

TradeMonster is new and worth a look because of their ties to OptionsMonster. The celebrity endorsement of the Najarian Boys is reason enough to take a look.

Charles Schwab, or Schwab for short, loves customers who have more than $300,000 in household investable assets. Less than that and you don't really get the same quality attention.

I don't really like TD Ameritrade but it works fine. Their stock commissions are $9.99 a trade and they have no hidden fees to boot. This option is fine, but it's not one I recommend. - 23167
